Bernie Taupin is a renowned lyricist and lifelong visual artist. Reflections: The Art of Bernie Taupin features a collection of original works created as a tribute to his 50-year partnership with Elton John. Its subject matter is inspired by hit songs the two created together honouring their music in a visual form and reflecting on their five decades of hit songs.
Visitors and guests can visit the works on display in the hotel’s lobby, regarded as Vancouver’s living room, and a location where artistic collaboration is the standard. Additional Taupin works on the second floor will make up a gallery wall collection, including a mixture of original artwork, limited edition prints, and monotype pieces, all inspired by Taupin’s song writing. All pieces are available for purchase, with autographed limited edition prints starting at $2,500 CAD.
At The Lobby Lounge, a series of cocktails, like the spirited ‘Leaving Oz’ ice stamped with the signature piano, or ‘The Crocodile’ with a painted, have been created, inspired by the works on display and available for a limited time through the exhibition. The collaboration with Bernie Taupin, in partnership with Toronto’s Liss Gallery, Taupin’s exclusive Canadian representative, underscores the hotel’s commitment and passion to art and artistic collaborations that began when Fairmont Pacific Rim opened its doors in 2010.
“I spend most of my free time creating visual art now, so I decided to create a body of work in honor of my other body of work, just this once.” ~ Bernie Taupin
REFLECTING ON 50 YEARS
“Fifty years of creativity. Fifty years of passion. Fifty years of friendship. As Elton embarks on his final world tour, I’ve been presented with many opportunities to reflect on our musical career. But how do I feel about our biggest hits? How do I interpret them as I reflect upon the last 50 years of my professional life? How would I translate them…visually? Fans share often that my lyrics and Elton’s melodies have shaped and changed their lives in dramatic, everlasting ways. How can I possibly express my gratitude to the millions of fans who have impacted my life? These especially crafted works of art are my best effort, and I am so pleased to share this very personal art with you.” ~ Bernie Taupin
