Fairmont Pacific Rim is dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and addressing plastic pollution in the world’s oceans and natural environments. In our first year of operation, we proudly received the 5-Green Key rating and have since made positive environmental changes in every department.

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have removed all non-essential single-use plastics from our guest experience, including in guestrooms, dining areas, the spa, and public spaces. This accomplishment has been verified by GreenStep Solutions Inc., based in British Columbia.

Fairmont Pacific Rim has also recently implemented the Orbisk Food Waste System, a groundbreaking technology that will revolutionize our approach to managing food waste.

SUSTAINABILITY AT VANCOUVER AQUARIUM

Vancouver Aquarium is at the forefront of implementing environmentally sustainable practices to reduce their impact on the environment and wildlife. This includes managing energy usage, waste generation, and procurement of goods.

All disposable dishware, utensils, and food waste at the Aquarium Café are composted and transformed into Class A compost used to cultivate certified organic alfalfa and hops in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland.

The gift shop at Vancouver Aquarium offers an array of sustainable products, like reusable straws, bottles, and utensils, along with a diverse selection of sustainable alternatives to everyday items, including natural rubber bath toys and bamboo-based dishware for children.

Their commitment also extends to energy conservation, strategic chemical management, water conservation, and eco-friendly transportation.
