Ever heard of crocheting with paint? It’s not a new TikTok trend, it’s the innovative artistry of Angela Teng – a Vancouver-based artist and our latest exhibitor at The Pacific Gallery at Fairmont Pacific Rim.

Presented by Equinox Gallery, ‘Colourwork’ showcases Teng’s signature technique: transforming paint into thin, yarn-like strands and crocheting them into mesmerizing compositions. The result? A fascinating fusion of sculpture, painting and textile art that challenges traditional notions of craft and fine art.

Teng’s tactile creations pay homage to the labour-intensive traditions of women’s handiwork while embracing the bold geometry of high modernism.

Recognized nationwide for her boundary-pushing approach, she continues to explore the interplay of colour, form and texture in ways that make us rethink what paint can do. As she once shared with Canadian Art magazine, her work engages with ideas of sculpture, painting and feminism.

‘Colourwork’ is on display on the second floor of Fairmont Pacific Rim, offering art lovers and hotel guests a chance to experience Teng’s radiant, hand-crafted pieces up close.
