Summer Wind Down

August 31st, 2022

As we head into September, we’re thankful for one final long weekend promising hot weather and an abundance of activities. If you haven’t quite gotten around to making plans, do not fret, we have some amazing events happening over the next five days. Grab a room at Fairmont Pacific Rim, take advantage of our local residents offer, sit back, relax, and attend one (or more) of these events to ensure you’re making the most out of your staycation.

Wherefore art thou Romeo?

A classic and wildly popular event that has been on all summer long, is Vancouver’s very own Bard on the Beach. Located at Vanier Park in Kitsilano, Bard on the Beach was created to provide Vancouver residents and tourists with Shakespearean productions. There are two classics to choose from this weekend, “A midsummer night’s dream” and “Romeo and Juliet”. Rent one of our BMW e-bikes and take the 15-minute ride to the park, grab a glass of wine or a beer once you’re inside, sit back and marvel over the unforgettable performances Bard has to offer. They’re also offering a long weekend flash sale, so get your tickets while they’re available!

Shop a little, cheers a lot.

If you’re feeling a little more casual and wanting to stay closer to the Downtown core—walk over to Waterfront station and take the SeaBus across the water to Shipyards, in North Vancouver. All weekend, Cates Deck and Shipbuilders’ Square will have beer gardens and live music for you to enjoy. Admission is free, so swing on by anytime to experience the music and sit in the sunshine. Visit the North Shore Artisan Market, located in the Pipe Shop, on Friday and stroll through the Lonsdale Farmers Market on Saturday—there is something for everyone!

It’s music to my ears.

Head on over to the other side of town, and marvel in the stunning views and character that Granville Island has to offer. While you’re there, check out the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, featuring famous music and dance from Spain. Soak up the culture with free performances at the Picnic Pavilion at 267 Old Bridge Walk from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 3. Once the performances are done, grab some pre-dinner beverages at The Lobby Lounge before heading up for an unforgettable dinner at Botanist to satisfy all your cravings after a long day in the heat.

Meet me at the Westcoast Wheel.

As the summer comes to a close, catch the last weekend at The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). The fair consists of an assortment of food, beverages, games, rides, and plenty of vendors stretching across the property. This weekend, the live entertainment is a highlight with the Summer Nights Concerts: Nelly (September 2), Bachman Cummings (September 3), The Beach Boys (September 4), and Chaka Khan and Patti LaBelle (September 5). The fair has an abundance of activities and things to see—plus you’ll leave feeling pretty nostalgic.
