What It Means to be Human: The Pacific Gallery Launches ‘Figures’

June 23rd, 2025

This summer, Fairmont Pacific Rim is turning the spotlight on what makes us human.

From June 10 through September 1, The Pacific Gallery presents Figures, a striking new exhibition that invites viewers to explore the human form in all its complexity and beauty. Curated in collaboration with Equinox Gallery, it features some of Canada’s most celebrated and thought-provoking artists.

With longstanding connections to the hotel and Vancouver’s creative and cultural community, expect to encounter familiar names, from Douglas Coupland and Adad Hannah to Angela Grossmann, each bringing their signature style to the gallery space, interpreting the figure through layered meaning and visual storytelling.

The exhibition also features a powerhouse mix of artists like Kim Dorland, Sonny Assu, Cindy Sherman, Jeff Wall, Rodney Graham, Renée Van Halm and even archival legends like Eadweard Muybridge. From bold oil paintings and moody sketches, to experimental photography and conceptual portraiture, Figures is as much a study of art as it is a mirror held up to ourselves.

More than just a gallery visit, this is an experience that dives into themes of identity, vulnerability and presence, all of which are curated against the backdrop of Fairmont Pacific Rim’s sleek, art-forward design and energy. What better way to contemplate the meaning of the human experience than through shareable bites and moments at The Lobby Lounge & RawBar, or an artful experiential cocktail at Botanist Bar?

Whether you’re an art lover, a curious wanderer or someone who just appreciates a beautiful distraction, Figures offers a compelling narrative about who we are and why that still matters.

Visit Figures at The Pacific Gallery, located on the second floor of the hotel.
