Just as everyone anticipated, this year has been about more travel, larger road-trips, quick flights, and anything that allows us to leave home and chase some summer sun. As locals, we’ve come to learn that although our city rarely ever sleeps (especially in the summertime), it most certainly starts its week slow. Take advantage of the weekday slowdown, book yourself a room at Fairmont Pacific Rim—and explore the city on its quieter days.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Not wanting to compete with weekend traffic into the city or squeeze yourself onto a skytrain at rush hour? Entering the city mid-week but also during off-peak hours will do wonders for your schedule (not to mention your sanity). There is generally less traffic earlier in the week (both driving and by foot) but make sure you’re where you need to be before 5:00 pm—to avoid the post work rush for happy hour drinks.
COME AWAY WITH ME
Look up Vancouver on any search platform and you’re bound to read about all of the nearby hikes and trails that our beautiful city has to offer. From the more leisurely trails such as Lighthouse Park, to the quite-intense Grouse Grind (mother nature’s staircase)—there is something for everyone. Although these hikes are not hidden gems, mid-week visits allow you to enjoy these peaceful hikes with no distractions and marvel over the stunning ocean and mountain views.
Have we mentioned our bike-program is back in full-swing? Drop on by our guest services team to rent a bike for the day, and head over to the seawall for a relaxing cycle with epic views. The seawall is a popular running/cycling/walking trail for Vancouverites—get out around 10:00am or 2:00pm for the best experience.
WE’LL TAKE THE UPGRADE, THANKS
Maybe the most appealing part of traveling early week? The reduced room rates. Spend a little less, or upgrade to a suite you’ve always dreamed of staying in, while still staying within your budget. Our Signature Harbour Mountain View Rooms are iconic for their unobstructed views of Coal Harbour, Stanley Park, or North Shore Mountains.
TABLE FOR TWO, PLEASE
Between booking a table at your favourite restaurant, a popular tourist attraction, and maybe even a few day trips out of the city—it can get overwhelming, to say the least. Traveling on a weekday allows you to book more coveted reservations at some of the city’s top dining destinations, particularly on Mondays through Wednesdays.
During your stay, stop by Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Pacific Rim. Although the summer is busy season at the spa, we offer reduced pricing and more availability throughout the week. The spa offers multiple treatments focusing on relaxation and rejuvenation. Indulge in a Coastal Mountain Cleanse—a detoxifying wrap that soothes and nourishes the body with a blue-green algae mask.
