The Pacific Gallery Launches ‘Sampling’

February 9th, 2026

Running through May 1, 2026, The Pacific Gallery presents Sampling, a compelling group exhibition of mixed-media works. The exhibition explores the artistic impulse to juxtapose, contradict, and reassemble imagery in an age of digital saturation.

The Pacific Gallery on Fairmont Pacific Rim’s second floor, Sampling features a distinguished roster of artists, including Bobbie Burgers, Angela Grossmann, Jack Kenna, Sigmar Polke, Gordon Smith, Renée Van Halm, and Elizabeth Zvonar.

In an era defined by an endless stream of digital media, the artists in Sampling treat the world of existing imagery as a vast archive. By “sampling” fragments of visual culture to construct new narratives, the artists disrupt linear meanings and create complex, often surreal, visual relationships. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how meaning shifts when a familiar image is stripped of its initial context and placed into a newly forged narrative.

“We are thrilled to transform The Pacific Gallery into a space of reflection on how we collectively process and repurpose the imagery that surrounds us daily,” Jens Moesker, Regional Vice President and General Manager, Fairmont Pacific Rim. “Through this collaboration with Equinox Gallery, we continue our commitment to bringing world-class contemporary art into the heart of the hotel, offering our guests and the Vancouver community a chance to engage with local and international art.'”

The works on display range from painting and collage to digital intervention, highlighting techniques where fragments of the past are folded into the present to be altered, disrupted, and ultimately renewed.
