Artist Profile: Andrew Mockler

Andrew Mockler is an actor, musician, and songwriter from the UK. His debut single ‘She Waits’ reached #1 on the New Zealand iTunes singer songwriter chart in 2010. Andrew’s follow up single ‘Next Train‘ has recently won the Rocky Mountaineer song competition and is now featured in their 2013 experience video.

Andrew has a degree in Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music from Newcastle University in the UK, and grade 8 music theory / vocals from the London College of Music. He worked with Sting as a lead and backing vocalist in 2004 and 2006, and has performed for the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Robert Kennedy Jr., Sir Jeffrey Archer, the NZ All Blacks rugby team, and many more.

Middlesbrough, England

 

What style of music do you play?

A little bit of everything (except Opera)

 

What instruments do you play?

I professionally sing and play guitar, and I’m competent on bass and piano.

 

How did you discover your passion and talent for music?

When I was 11 I didn’t want to be left alone at lunch time so I started learning guitar, which spurred my musical passion. I was not naturally talented at music and had to work exceptionally hard to be good at it.

 

How long have you been practicing your craft?

23 years.

 

Favourite song to play?

My favourite song is Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, and my current favourite to play is Take Me To Church by Hozier.

 

Favourite song to listen to?

I love the Great American Songbook, can’t beat it.

 

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I’m also an actor.

 

On your day off we would find you…

At home watching a great TV show or movie.

 

Its 4am on a Saturday night, what would you eat?

That’s usually when I’m going to bed.
