Meet Martin Acosta! This Argentinean born musician grew up in Toronto and has now found himself on Canada’s west coast performing for crowds all over Vancouver. Martin started playing the drums at age 13, but soon after he took on the guitar and piano which, along with his vocal stylings, have become the foundation of his live show today.  He signed a record deal with Universal Germany at age 21 with his band “Outmatch” and has played shows all over North America, Europe, and Asia. His head bobbing, toe tapping, hip-shaking music has our guests grooving to the beat numerous evenings each week in The Lobby Lounge and RawBar.

Where are you from?

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but moved to the Toronto area when I was a kid, and spent most of my years there before moving to Vancouver in 2009.

What style of music do you play?

I like to play as many styles of music as possible and shape them into something that is still true to me, and fits my style.  Everything from classic hits, to the current Top40 charts played acoustically with a looper pedal, giving it that full-band feel.

What instruments do you play?

I mostly sing and play guitar, but I do also play some piano on occasion, as well as drums and percussion.

How did you discover your passion and talent for music?

I think I always had a good ear for songs.  My brother had a guitar, so I started trying to figure out how to play the songs that I like by ear… and I’m still doing it today!

How long have you been practicing your craft?

I’ve been playing drums since I was 13, and picked up the guitar when I was 15.

Favourite song to play?

This always changes, of course, but right now I’d say Ed Sheeran has some fun tunes, and maybe “You Found Me” by The Fray.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Most of my friends call me Tino.

On your day off we would find you…

Hanging with my wife, or playing competitive sports, either hockey or soccer.  I’m a sucker for the sports!

What is your favourite cocktail?

Old Fashioned.

It’s 4am on a Saturday night, what would you eat?

Big Mac, 6 nuggets, and Large Fries, please!
