Fairmont Pacific Rim has played host to many extraordinary and show-stopping wedding ceremonies and receptions over the past ten years, but we also provide a picture perfect backdrop for those looking to get down on one knee and pop the big question. From the private Chairman’s Suite Terrace inspired by a Balinese Villa, to the Fairmont Gold Lounge located on the 20th floor of the hotel with breathtaking view of Coal Harbour and the North Shore Mountains, we have a range of exclusive event spaces and a team of experts to help you make it one of the most memorable and exciting moments for you both. We were lucky enough this year to get involved with influencer and make-up artist Kaitlin Hargreaves‘ recent proposal. See all the details of her special night in Botanist on her blog here.

We recently sat down with our Wedding & Special Events Manager Merina Chandra (our resident wedding expert) for a quick Q&A about proposals.

Q: COVID is still a thing, should I wait to get engaged?

There are safe and proper ways to still have special moments. The benefit of a proposal is that it is typically just the two of you and perhaps a photographer. A private space personalized to the two of you is the perfect way to celebrate your journey together.

Q: Should I propose on Valentine’s Day? What are the pro’s and con’s?

Pros: It is a classic and timeless date that the two of you will remember for years to come. As you go through life and celebrate Valentine’s Day it will have a special meaning to the two of you. Your loved ones, friends and family will likely have their own plans, so you do not need to feel bad about keeping it intimate and just between the two of you. After the “Yes!” many venues and restaurants will have already rolled out all the stops to make dining experiences special. You won’t need to plan too much!

Cons: Plan ahead! Chances are if you do not make reservations quickly for a location, venue or dining reservation, you may be in search of a back-up space. Valentine’s Day could be seen as predictable (they can get a whiff of what’s planned), which is why you need a good plan in place.

Q:  What are the benefits of working with a Wedding & Special Events Manager to plan your proposal?

Planning an engagement already comes with a handful of tasks. Purchase the ring, keep the secret and plan the perfect way to propose. If you’re not sure how to make your vison come to life, insert Fairmont Pacific Rim! We will take any small detail that is special to you and find a way to add it into the experience so they know you thought this through. We will help you work alongside our trusted vendors to decorate the space with their favourite flowers and capture the big moment forever.

Q: What are the top proposal or intimate celebration trends for 2021?

With the climate being how it is, couples wanting to celebrate milestones in their lives have a new found appreciation for these special moments. The key is to be personal over flashy and intimate over a large production. We recommend adding in the special things that make up your love story. From where you met, to where you have travelled, and all your favorite things to do together. We can and would love to help you with that vision and be part of your love story.
