Study for le Mépris I – XIII

Born in the UK but a longtime resident of Vancouver, artist Ian Wallace is recognized as an influential figure in the development of internationally acknowledged photographic and conceptual art practice.

September 1st, 2015

He is known for juxtaposing monochrome painting and photography, drawing attention to the differences between the two mediums, and referencing aesthetic and social issues through various themes. At Fairmont Pacific Rim, his series Masculin/Féminin explore this integration but with a marked difference. The images of the male and female leads are cropped and separated and thus given symbolic value within Wallace’s own anti-expressionist system of representation.
