things to do in vancouver in the spring
Planning to visit Vancouver this April? Stay with us and discover some of our favourite things to do as the city warms up.
Stroll Down Cherry Blossom-Lined Streets
Vancouver is renowned for its stunning cherry blossom trees, which paint the city in shades of pink and white each spring. For just a few weeks, over 43,000 trees bloom across streets, parks and waterfronts. Enjoy a peaceful stroll around neighbourhoods like Kitsilano or the West End and savour this floral spectacle.
Explore Stanley Park
Stanley Park is a must-visit destination year-round, but spring breathes new life into its trails and gardens. Rent a bike and cycle the seawall, where the crisp ocean air and stunning mountain views make for a memorable ride, or take a leisurely walk through the park’s blooming gardens, dotted with pops of colour from daffodils, tulips and cherry blossom. The Rose Garden and Lost Lagoon are particularly enchanting during this time of year.
Visit the Vancouver Art Gallery
Spring showers provide the perfect opportunity to explore the Vancouver Art Gallery, a cultural gem in the heart of downtown. Home to a diverse collection of works from Canadian and international artists, the gallery showcases everything from thought-provoking contemporary exhibits to iconic pieces by Emily Carr, one of Canada’s most celebrated painters.
Savour Local Flavours at Vancouver’s Farmers’ Markets
Vancouver’s spring farmers’ markets offer a vibrant taste of the city’s culinary scene, making them a food lover’s dream. From the lively Trout Lake Farmers’ Market to the charming Kitsilano Market, these community hubs are brimming with fresh produce, handcrafted artisanal goods and gourmet treats. Stroll through stalls overflowing with juicy berries, fragrant herbs and spring greens, or indulge in baked goods and locally made jams that capture the essence of the season. Supporting these markets not only connects you to local growers and makers but also immerses you in the flavours and spirit of Vancouver in full spring bloom.
Take to the Water in False Creek
As the weather warms up, False Creek comes alive with opportunities to explore Vancouver from the water. Rent a kayak or paddleboard and enjoy the scenic waterways, taking in views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains. Paddle past iconic landmarks like Science World, BC Place and Granville Island, or take a moment to admire the playful harbour seals often spotted in the area. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful escape or an active adventure, this is one of the most immersive ways to experience Vancouver’s coastal charm in spring.
Hike the North Shore Trails
Vancouver’s North Shore offers some of the best hiking trails in the region. Spring is an ideal time to explore trails like Lynn Loop, where towering evergreens and rushing streams create a tranquil escape, or Quarry Rock, where you can enjoy rewarding views of Deep Cove and the sparkling waters below. The cooler temperatures make it an ideal time to enjoy the natural beauty without the summer crowds. Just don’t forget to check trail conditions and bring proper gear to fully enjoy this outdoor adventure.
Spring in Vancouver is a season of renewal, beauty and adventure. With so much to see and do, it’s the perfect time to embrace the city’s outdoor and cultural offerings.
