Vancouver, BC (October 21, 2024) – On November 1 and 2, 2024, Fairmont Pacific Rim is set to celebrate its third year of Día de los Muertos with a weekend of various activations throughout the hotel. This year, the hotel is partnering with Tito Pin-Perez and Álvaro García, co-founders of Vertical Comedor Evolutivo in Mexico’s Bajío region, to create a unique cultural experience honouring the sacred holiday.
The celebration begins on Friday, November 1, with a Botanist Bar takeover. Botanist, ranked No.24 on North America’s 50 Best Bars list, will team up with Vertical Comedor Evolutivo to create a cocktail menu inspired by the symbolisms of Día de los Muertos. The celebration continues with a Día de los Muertos[1]themed pop-up at The Lobby Lounge & RawBar on Saturday, November 2. Tito Pin-Perez and Álvaro García will host an evening filled with curated cocktails, live music, and entertainment, providing guests with an engaging and immersive experience.
The weekend will also feature an exclusive industry seminar on Friday, November 1, titled, “Paving Your Own Path”, where Tito and Álvaro will share insights into their own journeys on opening and developing bar concepts, including Vertical, as well as inspiring others in the hospitality industry to forge their creative paths. Tito, the 2024 recipient of Mexico’s Bartender of the Year award by Culinaria Mexicana, along with his co-founder, draws on over more than a decade of experience in globally renowned bars. Most recently, their last establishment, Rayo, ranked top 5 in North America’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2024. Vertical Comedor Evolutio, their latest venture launched in September 2024, features a cocktail program that celebrates the vibrant, everyday flavors of contemporary Mexico, inviting guests to savor the moment and rediscover the joy of the present.
“I’ve always appreciated Tito and Álvaro’s thoughtful approach to cocktails,” says Grant Sceney, Creative Beverage Director at Fairmont Pacific Rim. “Partnering with them for this special occasion allows us to create something unique for our guests, combining our styles into one memorable experience.”
Paying respect and bringing authenticity to the celebration, the property works closely with local Mexican artisans, the Mexican Embassy of Vancouver, and local artists to showcase the rich cultural traditions of Día de los Muertos. Each of the Día de Muertos events is open to the public – complimentary reservations are required for the Industry Seminar on November 1, and can be made.
